The campsite is set in the grounds of an 18th century hunting lodge. The pitches are on grass ground among fruit orchards or around the pond. Sanitary facilities were always clean although one out of the three toilet blocks looked dated. Staff were out and about cleaning pretty much all day. There are three playgrounds for children of different ages and two heated outdoor swimming pools, one quite shallow and perfect for toddlers. We could hire canoes on site and paddle around on the lake, which was great fun and we received daily visits from the chickens which roam the campsite. There is also a guinea pig run in the forest. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we appreciated the well-stocked shop on the site. There is also a cafe, restaurant with takeaway facilities and a children's club every morning from 10-12. Every Sunday evening the owner of the castle invites campers to her home and tells the castle's story, definitely worth a visit. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and join the merry music-making every Wednesday evening. The campsite is also the perfect starting point for great days out, including the beaches of Trouville and the D-day landing beaches, Bayeux with its tapestry, the beautiful medieval harbour town of Honfleur and many more. It's also in the middle of Cider and cheese country, local food is excellent there. Due to its proximity to Calais, when we went the campsite was 90% occuped by English families and is definitely designed for English tourists, many of whom were returning customers. All staff speak perfect English, including in the Kids Club. As there are many families, the campsite is lively, but never too noisy during the day and tends to quieten down around 9pm when the kids go to bed. Points to note, though, were the tight pitches. Our tent measures 4 x 6 m and we were very close to our neighbours. Caravans and tents are mixed and we lost our lovely view for a few days when a caravan set up just outside our front door.
Ausflugstipps: Bayeux, Honfleur, Festyland theme park, Trouville beach
